Rapper Heavy D’s cause of death is from a pulmonary embolism. The L.A. County Coroner’s Office said the dead star suffered from deep vein thrombosis in Beverly Hills when he returned from a Michael Jackson tribute on an overseas flight.

According to online site WebMD, a pulmonary embolism aka deep vein thrombosis is a condition when blood flow to the lung is cut off in a major artery. Typically, a blood clot causes the blockage.

When it’s small, it usually resolves on its own, or with minor treatment and rest. However, if the blood clot is large enough to block blood flow to the lung, damage takes place. In turn, it becomes a life-threatening condition. Many people diagnosed with the condition were part of long plane trips that causes the legs to be immobile for an extended time.
The Los Angeles Coroner’s Office says that Heavy D’s cause of death could have also been part of heart disease that he suffered from.

Early this year woman’s tennis player Serena Williams suffered a similar clot. A long plane trip was also to blame for her pulmonary embolism.

When the front man for Heavy D & the Boyz passed away suddenly last month, a large number of reasons surfaced on Twitter and social media about why the 44-year-old rap icon died.
There were rumors about a massive heart attack, drug abuse, a stroke, complications from pneumonia, and more. However, according to the Los Angeles Coroner’s Office, Heavy D, whose real name is Dwight Arrington Myers, died from “natural causes,” according to MTV News.
