It looks like AMC certainly made a wise decision when it came to premiering their new Western series “Hell on Wheels” after “The Walking Dead” Sunday night.
In a statement, the network announced Monday that “Wheels” brought in a grand total of 4.4 million viewers to the show along with a 1.9 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic. In both cases, this is the second-best premiere ever for an AMC show following “Dead” in October 2010. (You have to remember that this is a network with a number of other strong shows in “Mad Men” and “Breaking Bad.”)
“Wheels” marked a major attempt by the network to crack into the Western genre — and the question before the premiere was just how many “Dead” fans would manage to stick around. The good news? It seems like it did rather well in this department.
