2011 is almost over which means its time to think about plans for 2012 on the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina and Virginia.
Much of the Blue Ridge Parkway is closed during the winter periodically as weather conditions require and there are also stretches receiving needed construction work during the “off” season.
Even while the Parkway is closed there are still plenty of fun things to do in the region.
How about visiting Cherokee, North Carolina which is the Eastern home of the Cherokee Tribe. Cherokee also offers some of the closest gambling action at the newly expanded Harrah’s Cherokee Casino.
Asheville is also a great bet no matter what the season. A visit to the Biltmore, or a short trip up to the ski slopes near by await you there.
Finally, now is a great time to start planning your 2012 adventures along the Parkway starting in the Spring.
Hope you have a wonderful 2012 and look forward to seeing your comments on this column!
