The two teams meeting in Saturday’s ACC Championship game led way for the 2011 all conference teams announced today.
The No. 5 ranked Hokies had eight players named to either the first or second team and had another five earn honorable mention. Meanwhile the No. 20 ranked Clemson Tigers had nine players earn first or second team all conference honors.
Virginia Tech running back David Wilson and Boston College linebacker Luke Kuechly were the only unanimous first-team selections by 45 voting members of the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association.
Wilson, a junior from Danville, Va., led the league with an average of nearly 133 yards per game and had 1,595 rushing yards during the regular season, tops in the ACC. Kuechly led the nation with 191 total tackles for the Eagles.
Joining Wilson on the first team is fellow Hokie Blake DeChristopher, who has had quite a Monday so far. Earlier today he was named the ACC Offensive Lineman of the Week and he was awarded the Jacobs Blocking Trophy – the first Hokie ever to be so honored.
Hokies earning second-team all conference honors include quarterback Logan Thomas and offensive lineman Jaymes Brooks on offense; and defensive end James Gayle, cornerbacks Jayron Hosley and Kyle Fuller, and safety Eddie Whitley on defense.
Five Virginia Tech players earned honorable mention: J.R. Collins, defensive end; Antone Exum, safety; Cody Journell, kicker; Greg Nosal, offensive guard; and Bruce Taylor, linebacker.
