Take part in holiday activities at Dario Sattui’s authentically-styled, 13th century Tuscan castle and winery in Calistoga. During Holiday Cheer Weekend December 10 – 11, 2011, you can view wreaths from charity organizations and take home your favorite, enjoy musical entertainment and savor delicious food, in addition to tasting delicious wine.
Castello di Amorosa is a labor of love involving a big vision and fourteen years of construction. The castle winery was constructed from brick, wood and iron imported from Europe and combined with over 8,000 tons of local, Napa Valley stone. Located in the hills above Calistoga, they produce world-class wine including a Pinot Grigio from Mendocino County and award-winning Cabernet Sauvignon, sold direct to the consumer at the winery.
If you have yet to experience the castle, schedule a tour which lasts about two hours and concludes with a tasting. It is remarkable to have the ability to visit an authentic medieval Tuscan castle in our own back yard without a transatlantic journey. Explore the 107-room, eight level structure and discover new favorite selections while wine tasting in their stone tasting room. The castle contains a moat, drawbridge, battlement towers, great hall, torture chamber, winery and tasting rooms and a chapel.
Non-profit organizations from throughout the Napa Valley will display hand-made Holiday wreaths in the Castello’s Courtyard. Raffle tickets for $1.00 each can be purchased at the Castello and 100% of the raffle ticket proceeds will go to the non-profits.
Musicians will be performing throughout the weekend. On Satruday December 10, The Sylvan Singers from Will C. Wood High School in Vacaville will perform from 10:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. in the Castello’s Chapel and Great Hall. On Sunday, December 11, 2011 musical guests include the Charles Dickens Merrie Ole Christmas Carolers; Community Women’s Orchestra of Oakland; and the Three Tenors.
Enjoy fresh pizza prepared in the Castello’s outdoor oven by Pizzeria Tra Vigne, serving Margherita and pepperoni pizzas. Napa Valley’s Elaine Bell Catering will provide warm, savory butternut squash soup, creamy tomato soup, and potato/leek/mushroom soup along with vegetable pannini. Additional culinary delights include organic chocolate hand-crafted by Monterey Chocolate Company. Chocolate samples will be offered and items for purchase will be available.
Details: Holiday Cheer Weekend, Featuring Holiday Wreaths for Charity is open to the general public. Held on December 10-11, 2011, the cost is $15 in addition to the normal tour and/or tour and tasting fee. The wreaths will be on display and the public can donate through December 31, 2011.
