“Sports, Education and Art” is the official slogan of the International Olympic Committee. Our local center of excellence, the ARCO Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, is a good example of how valuable these programs can be. Here is an introduction to understand why and how you and other San Diegans should add your support during the Season of Sharing:
The United States Olympic Team is privately funded by individual donors and sponsoring enterprises. In addition to organizing Olympic trials and US participation in the Olympic Games, Team USA manages three world class residential sports training facilities. These are made available to all athletes ranked in the top ten percent of their sport, not just Olympic competitors. Team USA also plays an important role in preparations for other international competitions, such as the Pan American Games and World University Championships. It plays a vital role in world diplomacy and has demonstrated constructive approaches to resolving differences with nations like Cuba and Iran, which do not have diplomatic relations with the United States.
Look at these valuable dividends from your generous support of Team USA:
1. Multiple benefits for the entire health care industry. Research on the subjects of physical fitness, sports psychology and nutrition by the US Olympic Committee benefits all Americans. The USOC Bob Beeton Sports Medicine Clinic is making steady progress in learning more ways to achieve optimal health.
2. Cultural tourism. Many Team USA affiliate events such as USA Swimming’s Grand Prix series are a magnet for top athletes around the world. They put competing here at the top of the list for international travel. Each year, thousands of their fans also travel to champion them. Their visits create hundreds of jobs for other Americans.
3. Cost-effective physical rehabilitation programs for injured athletes, veterans and many others through Paralympics programs. These efforts have enabled thousands of Americans with missing limbs or other severe injuries to adapt and lead healthy, productive lives. The Team USA Paralympics spokesperson, Aimee Mullins, has achieved notable success as an actress, fashion model, and public speaker. The small investment Team USA supporters made in funding her training has been repaid many times over with revenues from the many successful business ventures she has made possible.
4. Sports product exports. Consistently excellent results by America’s 100+ gold medalists and their teammates generates worldwide demand for sports equipment, nutrition programs, software and accessories that are made or designed in the U.S.A. These job engine companies support more economic growth in their communities.
Even if you do not have any extra money to donate this year, you can still support Team USA by buying products from its sponsors. Here is a link to the list.
