Legs. They are roughly one half of your body. They carry you everywhere you go. Why not do the things you need to do to develop them and make them look good? Nothing catches an eye quite like a good looking, fit lower body.
Women tend to hold more fat in their lower body, particularly around the hips, buttocks and upper thigh areas. Because a woman’s lower body carries more fat and has a slightly different shape, the area needs to be worked a bit differently than men’s lower bodies.
Here are some leg workout tips that will help you develop the “chrome wheels” to your female frame:
- Typically, perform higher reps for legs than you would for other bodyparts. That means instead of doing 10 to 20 reps per set, do 20 to 30 rep sets. You will be amazed how a few extra reps will change the shape of your legs. Don’t bounce reps!
- Perform various ranges of motion. To hit your glutes and hamstrings a bit more, go deep and use a wider than normal stance in all exercises. To really hit your glutes hard, only peform the bottom half of the exercise (i.e. go all the way down, but only come half the way back up). To hit your quads more, bring legs closer together and perform mid range reps.
- Nothing works better than squats (free style or in smith machine). But one-legged leg presses with your foot very high on the platform, going as deep as you possibly can for high reps comes close. Deep lunges where your back knee touches the floor lightly while holding dumbbells are also effective. High bar step ups (waist high) are also killers.
- Always perform leg extensions and calf raises using very high reps (30 to 50 rep range).
