How does a swim in a perfectly heated pool sound on a chilly day? There are quite a few indoor pools across Long Island that are open to the public with no memberships required.
Echo Park This exciting indoor pool and fitness complex is openseven days a week, year-round. A special lap swimming period is held on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 7-10 a.m. The facility includes a diving tank, men’s and women’s sauna and weight rooms, lockers and a snack bar. The complex is also the location of many regularly scheduled exercise and swim classes. Memberships as well as day rates: residents $7; non-residents $8.
Hofstra University Swim Center offers an indoor Olympic-sized pool, located in the South wing of the Physical Education Building, includes four diving boards (2 1-meter and 2 3-meter), an underwater dive-tank observation window, two movable bulkheads that can divide the pool for separate activities, and comprehensive support facilities: locker rooms, showers, bleachers, offices and accessibility for the handicapped. Long Beach Recreation Center The “Rec” houses an indoor swimming pool, weight room, cardio room, steam room, showers and locker rooms. There is a fee to use the facility. Membership is available; day rates are also offered ($7 adults; $3 child). For further information call 516-431-3890.
The Nassau County Aquatics Center is a huge and state of the art swim facility, built in 1998 for the Goodwill Games. Major swimming, diving, and water polo competitions are held here. Swim lanes, diving boards, spectator area, showers and locker area, and snack bar.
