It has been recently speculated that Sony is working on some type of Smash Bros type game for its exclusive characters. Sony is wasting its money trying to do a cross party game for PS3 owners. Sony’s characters would not work well together. Baltimore gamers should not be excited for this game under any circumstances.
Sony has a wide array of characters that it could use in a party game similar to Smash Bros. Sony owns properties such as Twisted Metal, Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank, Resistance, Uncharted, Hot Shots Golf, God of War, Killzone, and Little Big Planet. Some of these games are in the same genre as one another, but they do not play the same at all. Smash Bros worked for Nintendo because a lot of its characters are silent protagonists. This means that each character lacks a defined personality. Link, Mario, Kirby, and Donkey Kong are all heroes, but the internal characteristics of each of them are unknown. No one knows which character is ambitious, cocky, smart, or clever. This was done intentionally by Nintendo so that they could be used in multiple video games. Sony’s characters have full fledged personalities. Nathan Drake seeks out treasure because he is ambitious. Other than that, Drake is just like any other person one would meet the street. Sweet Tooth is a psycho killer who drives an ice cream truck and enjoys terrorizing others. Ratchet is a standup person who does what is always right. He is also always willing to help others out.
The three Sony related just mentioned could not be further apart from one another, so how could they be put in the same game as each other? Nathan Drake would probably just use a few guns and his fists for fighting. Ratchet could use his wrench and maybe a few gadgets from the Ratchet and Clank series. What is Sweet Tooth going to do? Sweet Tooth is from Twisted Metal. This particular series has always focused on combat between vehicles, so what would Sweet Tooth the character play like? One could guess that he might stab his opponents to death, but that does not sound like fun at all.
If this new exclusive by Sony is in fact a cross party game like Smash Bros, then it would be wise for the company to stop production of this title and think of something else to do. Sony already takes flack for always copying the competition and it does not need to add anymore fuel to the fire. It would be wise for Sony to either come out with a new intellectual property or put more resources in making sure the PlayStation 4 is a success right out of the gate instead of wasting money on game featuring characters from first party titles.
