Finally, Angeleno’s have embraced Techno once again. I make this claim based on the insanely high turnout for Moby at MFG Parties weekly ‘School Night’ event last night, December 19th, 2011. Though we were packed like sardines, we still danced up a sweet sweet sweat and I couldnt help but think back to the late mid 90’s when techno was exploding on the national scene.
It was only too appropriate then that I would learn today that local EDM artist John Tejada’s original 7th City recordings are set for re-issue tomorrow, December 21st. Yes, all five EPs, originally released from 1998 to 2002, have been newly remastered and will be made available digitally for the first time through Beatport. The Blue Dawn EP was Tejada’s first single for 7th City. Included for the digital release is a bonus that only appeared on test pressing – the remix for “Beaming Red Oscillator.” Later Tejada classics such as “Timebomb” and the elusive “Timebomb (VIP Remix)” sound just as fresh today as they did 10 years ago.
Vienna-born John Tejada first moved to Los Angeles at the tender age of 8 and, following a brief career in hip-hop, found and embraced his home in electronic music. Known for crafting a brand of subtle, musical techno, his recorded output ranges across tempo and genre lines, from chilled out affairs with spacious arrangements to pulsating, densely layered, energetic tracks that work magnificently in the hands of DJs as well as on the home stereo.
In his two decade-long career, he has offered a steady stream of massive releases (including “Sweat On The Walls” and “Mono On Mono”) making him a mainstay on the Beatport charts and with uncountable DJs. He is also half of the long-standing City Centre Offices act, I’m Not A Gun (together with Takeshi Nishimoto). His work has been released on Kompakt, Poker Flat, 7th City, Playhouse, Fabric, Plug Research, and, of course, his own imprint, Palette Recordings.
You may remember Tejada from his epic El Rey gig earlier this year or perhaps from the Do Labs Woogie Nights at King King earlier this month. If you aren’t yet familiar with the artist, you’ll get the chance to check him out next week on the 30th at Incognito.
