Justin Bieber is set to make a slew of TV appearances promoting his 2011 holiday album, “Under the Mistletoe,” including a confirmed performance on “The X Factor” U.K. on December 4, 2011. He is also likely to perform on “The X Factor” U.S. Season 1 finale on December 22, 2011.
Bieber performed on “The X Factor” Germany on November 15, 2011.
He broke the news about his “X Factor” U.K. appearance by announcing it on his Twitter account on November 28, 2011, when he posted this message:
“UK!!! X Factor this week. #Mistletoe”
On November 13, 2011, Bieber was in London to tape the TV special “This Is Justin Bieber,” which ITV1 will televise in the U.K. on a date to be announced. Bieber announced on Twitter that he and Tinie Tempah performed a new version of “Drummer Boy” for the TV special.
In addition to his “X Factor” appearances, Bieber was on NBC’s “Today” on November 23, 2011. On November 30, 2011, Bieber and Mariah Carey are is set to premiere their music video for “All I Want for Christmas Is You” (a remake of Carey’s hit version of the song) on NBC’s “Christmas in Rockefeller Center” TV special, which airs in the U.S. at 8 p.m. Eastern/Pacific Time. (The one-hour special will be live in the Eastern and Central time zones.) Bieber also makes an appearance on NBC’s “A Michael Bublé Christmas,” a one-hour TV special that will be televised December 6 at 8 p.m. Eastern/Pacific Time.
As for his likely appearance on “The X Factor” U.S., Bieber has a strong connection to “X Factor” U.S. judge L.A. Reid, who helped make Bieber a big star when Reid was chairman of Island Def Jam Music Group. (Reid is now chairman/CEO of Epic Records.)
“The X Factor” U.S. finalist Drew (stage name for Drew Ryniewicz) is a self-described Bieber fanatic, so it is very likely that Bieber will duet with Drew if he performs on the show. At her “X Factor” audition, Drew performed a ballad version of Bieber’s hit “Baby.”
This is what Reid had to say when I asked him about Bieber and Drew in an October 2011 conference-call interview:
Carla Hay: Since Drew Ryniewicz says she’s a huge Justin Bieber fan and you’re friends with Justin, what has he said about Drew, if anything, since you said he’s been watching the show? And hopefully, we’ll see him perform on this season’s finale with Drew. That would be great.
L.A Reid: Yes, that would be … Well, that’s great. Now, see, you do great A&R, too, I see. The thing is I love Drew. I have not spoken to Justin about Drew at all. I think she’s amazing. I think she’s really a contender here, a really competitive talent and Justin is a good sport and he takes it all in the right spirit. He doesn’t take it seriously when somebody says that they want to be better than him or beat him at what he does. He’s a good sport and he’s got a level head. He takes it all in fun.
