Many vampire fans do not realize that in the Lexington area there are four vampire authors that readers may enjoy. Two are from the Lexington area, one resides in Paducah, and one in Louisville.
The first is J. R. Ward, who resides in Louiville and is the author of The Black Dagger Brotherhood. The second is Molly Harper who lives in Paducah and is the author of the Jane Jameson Series. The story set in southern Kentucky and tells the story about a young librarian who has very bad luck. One night after being fired from her job as a children’s librarian she is mistaken for a deer and shot dead. But, the handsome gentleman that she met at the bar follows her home and sees her almost dead on the side of the road. Luckily he is a vampire and turns her. The story is funny, witty, romantic and full of adventure and mystery. Driving Mr. Dead, a novella is coming out this week and will tie in the next book in the series, Nice Girls Don’t Bite Their Neighbor in February.
The third is Sarah E. Glenn, resident of Lexington and author of All This and Family Too. Adjusting to life as a vampire hasn’t been easy for Cynthia. Her partner murdered, stalked by a demented preacher-turned-vampire hunter, and forced to move across country from North Carolina to Irvine, California, Cynthia tackles undeath one battle at a time. With the help of her devoted grandmother, trusted brother, and Josie, a distracting runaway, Cynthia comes to realize that it is not walking in sunshine that makes a person human, and living in the shadows might shed light on the things most important to her survival-family, love, and controlling her thirst for blood. She is currently working on the unnamed sequel.
And finally Lure of the Vampire by Bertena Varney. Lure of the Vampire is a pop culture reference book that begins with the history and mythology of vampires and ends with interviews of modern living vampires. The author has provided “fun” lists like the Powers of Dracula, Real Live Vampire Murders, Television Shows and African Americans who have played vampires. There are also websites in each section that show the most popular vampire books and even children’s shows and books. There are also interviews with various groups and individuals involved in the vampire community. Lure of the Vampire: A Pop Culture Reference Book of Lists, Websites, and “Very Telling” Personal Essays is a perfect quick to grab reference book for the vampire fan or author. It is concise enough to assist you in finding links to what you are looking for without our being too cumbersome and confusing. She is currently working on a second series as well.
