The #24 team in the nation, Gonzaga Lady Bulldogs, traveled to Portland on December 29 to take on the Pilots. The conference road game ended in an 80-65 victory for GU thanks to fantastic scoring efforts from Kayla Standish and Haiden Palmer who each scored 20 points. Taelor Karr added three 3-pointers and 11 total points. However, the game’s high scorer came from Portland’s ReZina TecleMariam who put in 21 points.
Shooting was the big difference in the game. The Lady Zags shot 52 percent from the field while the Pilots only scored on 42 percent of their shots. This doesn’t include Gonzaga’s tremendous shooting from the foul line, making 16 of their 18 attempts when Portland only shot 57 percent from the line. GU also drained 6 of 13 from outside the arc.
With the win, Gonzaga improves to 11-2 overall, 1-0 in the conference. Their next game is at home on New Year’s Day against the Red Flash of St. Francis (PA) whose current record is 5-6.
