With the Logitech Squeezebox Touch, a single finger is all it takes to bring you all the music and programming that the internet has to offer, including social media feeds.
Having previously reviewed the Squeezebox radio, I was quite familiar with the line, and what it does.
Out of the box, I was impressed with its size compared to its predecessor. It is so compact that it fits un-obtrusively anywhere. The caveat on its size is due to the fact that it lacks an external speaker. This is not a problem though, as it easily hooks up to any available stereo system as well as having a jack for earphones, an SD slot and a USB port (for playing your own music). From opening the box, to getting to my listening pleasure took less than 5 minutes, and included registering it on my WiFi network and hooking it up to my squeezebox account at www.mysqueezebox.com.
Aside from testing for general internet radio qualities, I wanted to hear it hooked up to my 3D surround system as well as listening via headphones.
Either way, the sound was nothing short of phenomenal. I heard the piercing shrills and shrieks of Steven Tyler of Aerosmith and the baritone lows of David Bowie. When hooked up to the 3D surround system, the sounds were more pronounced, however, please do not let that shy you away from putting this technical work of art on your night table paired with a nice set of headphones. I also took the liberty of downloading the Logitech Media Server, so that I may play music from any computer in my home to the Squeezebox.
No matter what station you pick, the quality is crisp, clean and extremely clear. Static was non existant. It easly projects the sound clearly enough to fill up a room.
The sound quality was tested on several genres including;
- Hard Rock
- Talk Shows
Each performed as if i was listening on a surround sound system. You will also see the channel’s logo or the musicians’ logo/picture on the screen which is an added plus.
The internet has so much to offer to the audiophile in all of us, Sites such as Pandora and Slacker offer all this for free. There are other premium channels that you can subscribe to such as Sirius radio. This radio (again, it should not be just labeled that) will please you with its selection of hundreds if not thousands of channels and genre interests. It will be a welcome addition to your electronics collection.
