Does Mitt Romney really want to cause one of the longest-running shows for children to receive no money from the government? While he did not say this word for word during a campaign stop, he certainly suggested that he is strongly considering the possibility when it comes to “Sesame Street.”
Specifically, here is what Romney had to say on this very subject:
“We’re not going to kill Big Bird. Big Bird is going to have advertisements, all right?”
Considering that the government subsidizes only a small percentage of the show’s funding (most comes from independent donations), this may not necessarily be the drastic of changes — however, it would probably force the show to go into a more kid-unfriendly commercial format since it’s hard to see enough donations coming in during a tough economy to keep it from happening.
Do you think “Sesame Street” should receive money from the government?
