You might not think of New Years as a time for kids, but for those of you that let them stay up late to count down to the new year might take this time to think about teaching your kids about new years resolutions. (no not the ones about loosing that ten pounds you want to).
Let’s say your child has a hard time with getting their homework done. Are they always rushing last minute to do it? Do they sometimes forget it? New years is the perfect time to get them to make a resolution about doing it and getting it turned in on time, without the last minute rush.
There is also the thought of doing a family new years resolution. Things like eating out less, spending more family time together, having a family game night, and/or cooking together as a family one night a week.
Even if your kids don’t stay up to count down into the new year, they can still have a resolution. Something small like being nice to their brother or sister will work. (and make your life a little easier). Just because you don’t think they can keep it does not mean they shouldn’t try. Plus, being able to remind them about their resolution might just be the nice little push they need to continue it, without you yelling at them about it.
So go sit down with your kids and see what you all can come up with for this New Year.
