The San Francisco 49ers held a conference call with the Bay Area media and the team’s Pro Bowl players. Four of the eight selected players were available to talk with the media.
P Andy Lee
“It’s an honor,” Lee said. “It’s definitely not something that you can expect.”
Lee thanked the other special teamers that have helped him throughout this season. He said that he thinks this is his best season because of the numbers he has put up and the team’s division title win. He knows that making the Pro Bowl is nice, but he doesn’t want to go.
“It’s definitely an awesome thing to have friends (teammates) there,” Lee added. “Hopefully we won’t be there, hopefully we’ll be at the Super Bowl.”
RB Frank Gore
Gore said it was a blessing to make the Pro Bowl and the playoffs in the same year. He took time to thank all the teammates and coaches that have helped him.
“I have to give it up to our coaches,” Gore said. “We have a great coach in Coach Harbaugh. I say we’ve always had the talent. Now we’ve got the right people in front of us who believe that we can win.”
Gore said that he wasn’t surprised at the team’s success this year and that he wanted to show that he had recovered from a hip injury that ended his season early last year. And with the success and seven fellow teammates joining him in Honolulu, it helped confirmed to Gore that this team is for real.
“Coming off this injury, I was hungry,” Gore said. “I wanted to show people that I was able to play this game like I have before.”
CB Carlos Rogers
“It was something that crossed my mind with the year I had and people had been talking about it,” Rogers said of his selection. “You never know until you actually hear it. There were people that were left out that probably thought the same thing and they didn’t make it.”
Rogers said that after a bad ending to his tenure with the Redskins, he was hoping to make a good first impression with his new team. He did just that with the 49ers and this season helped him make a big statement.
He’s hopeful that this isn’t the only season that he’ll be with the 49ers.
“I want to remain here, finish out my career here,” Rogers said. “That’s up to the general manager, owner, my agent to get that done. I just want to concentrate on playing football…This is the most fun I’ve had in my seven years playing.”
LT Joe Staley
“I found out from my agent,” Staley said of how he got the news. “I got a text that told me that I was going to the Pro Bowl.”
Head coach Jim Harbaugh also announced the selections during a team meeting.
“Everybody was very, very excited — everyone’s very, very happy,” Staley said.
Staley praisd the coaching staff for being the main reason why the team has succeeded so much this season. The tackle said he was privileged to be in this position with the 49ers. He even went out to say that fellow Pro Bowler Frank Gore makes his job that much easier.
“I think anytime you get named to the Pro Bowl for the first time, you’re surprised,” Staley said. “It’s a great honor to be recognized by your peers. We’ve been playing well and it’s a product of all the guys around me.”

LB Patrick Willis
– “I remember when it was just me over there and now to have more of us be a part of it speaks a lot about our team.”
– “My hat goes off to this team and what we’ve done so far, but I know it’s not the end of what we’re trying to do.”
K David Akers

– “It’s all three phases that have been recognized. A rising tide raises all ships and that’s really the truth around here.”
