McKee Botanical Gardens will begin hosting its post-Christmas, ‘Nights of Light’ event tonight. This event will be held nightly through Dec. 29, 2011 for guests wishing to continue to Holiday spirit with friends and family. ‘Nights of Light’ will run from 6-7:30 p.m. nightly.
“The Holiday season is about spending time with family and friends, and many residents receive visitors from outside the local area,” said McKee Botanical Garden Director Christine Hobart . ‘Nights of lights’ provides an opportunity to still experience the spirit of the holidays once they have passed in a serene tropical setting that can be found only at McKee.”
The Garden this year will feature majestic palms and lush tropical foliage wrapped in thousands of twinkling lights. The pathways through the Garden will be lit with luminaries and the ponds will be lit with floating lights. Visitors will have a chance to view one of the area’s largest model train display featuring more than 200 feet of track. Mini sandwiches and seasonal treats will be available to order from Elizabeth’s at the Garden Café.
The Garden will be offering $10 off its annual membership fee during the three night event. Annual memberships will be $25 for individuals and $40 for families. Memberships include free admission the Garden (including many of the events) and 10 percent off purchases made in the gift shop and café.

Here is a short poem about “Nights of Lights” from McKee Botanical Gardens:
T’is days after Christmas
And all through your home
The guests are still stirring
And ready to roam…
You’ve been to the movies, the beach and the mall
How about a place that’s different from them all?
Come to McKee and experience “Nights of Lights”
A post-holiday event that’s still merry and bright.
Stroll candle-lit pathways
Under dark evening skies
See thousands of lights
Twinkling on high.
The ponds will be brilliant
With luminaria displays
Unlike anything you’ll see
At the Garden by day.
Come see the train set
You’ll all want to play
Stop by the gift shop
Have a snack at the café.
Let the time spent together
Bridge the gap between miles
Look ahead to the new year
Creating memories and smiles!
