Almost as if in response to the latest in this column, president Obama put another notch in his “this is no longer a Christian nation” meme by refusing to acknowledge God in this year’s turkey day address.
There’s a snide riddle circulating about Barack Obama and the Creator. It goes,
What’s the difference between Obama and God?
God doesn’t think He’s Barack Obama!
And though it’s far-fetched to imagine the president is actually smug or deluded enough to believe this to be true, his slight to the Almighty during his Thanksgiving Day speech is raising the eyebrows and the ire of many, in particular conservative pundits and Christians.
As reported by the Huffington Post, Oklahoma pastor Jeff Brown (of Oklahoma City’s Grace Pointe Baptist Church as further research revealed) is quoted as saying: “To give thanks for luck is to deny God, much less omit.”
Todd Starnes of Fox News Radio writes in his blog, “For many Americans, though, Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on how blessed and thankful they are. …But nowhere in the 11-paragraph address does he (Obama) mention the Almighty.”
As seen in this video, Huffington “reporter” Christina Hartman is quick to point out that Obama did mention God in two other short blurbs in speeches from 2010 and 2009; which follows as the far left H.P. is a staunch supporter of Obama’s.
Yet the degree of reverence and whether or not Mr. Obama made the references in an attempt to pander to the majority of Americans, who continue to adhere to some form of Christianity, is open to debate. Indeed, what he means when he invokes the word “God” is highly debatable.
What is not, are the numerous examples of how antithetical the president’s words and deeds have been to Biblical Christianity since he came into the public forum. For example –
~ His own “faux pas” wherein he told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos his faith is “Muslim.”
~ His use of a common Islamic mantra (in the same link above) about angels. When asked his opinion about the dopey Florida preacher who was planning on having a burn the Koran day, he replied, “Yeah. I hope he listens to…those better angels.”
~ His abortion views wherein he amazingly commented that if his daughter’s become pregnant, i.e. “make a mistake,” he wouldn’t want them to be “punished with a baby.”
~ His over-the-top efforts to strike down the born alive infant protection act, which is tantamount to the endorsement of infanticide.
In this same oration, Obama also described the first Thanksgiving as, “a celebration of community,” a remark so incredibly far removed from the truth that even the most pious might be asking, “what the he** is that tripe supposed to mean?!”
Reasonable individuals of all political stripes and ideological backgrounds of course realize that Obama does NOT think himself to be God and that the joke is pure hyperbole.
However, what is also true is that when a nation denies God, its citizenry becomes gods unto itself, which paves the way for tyrannical, even despotic rule.
