Ch 23.1 KOKI in Tulsa is airing a special BCS Bound: OSU at the Fiesta Bowl on Sun. 1-1-2012 at 9:30 p.m. ESPN is actually airing the game. KOKI wouldn’t cut a deal to show Oklahoma State’s coaches shows like they had the past few years but they have created this special at the last minute. This underscores that this Fiesta Bowl is the most important game in Oklahoma State history. The Oklahoma State Cowboys in their first BCS bowl face the Stanford Cardinals. If they win they will have set a new school wins record and even if they lose they will have brought back cash for their operating budget that might allow them to not have to take games like play on Fridays which cost them a chance at the National Championship.
QB Brandon Weeden leads the Cowboys. He is extremely accurate with a strong arm, but he tends to force balls and take chances. While he is too old to become a franchise quarterback in the NFL he is perfect to become a new skilled position, 2MQ. Since he won’t get the reps given to young quarterbacks he could be treated similar to a kicker and just specialize on throwing the ball to receivers deep down the sidelines. Then in the last two minutes of a games he could be bought in to score quick touchdowns.
The Cowboy defense is much maligned but two opposing players have suffered organ damage when facing the Cowboys (KSU’s Tyler Lockett from Tulsa’s BTW – lacerated kidney, OU’s Jaz Reynolds – bruised kidney). No signs or allegations of the Cowboys punching opponents have been alleged. To tackle so hard to inflict internal damage takes incredible force and no regard for human life. Just what coaches look for in a defense.
ABC is running a special Road to the Bowls which airs on Sat. 12-31-2011 at 1:30 p.m. on ch 8.1 KTUL.
There are no specials scheduled covering the University of Tulsa or Oklahoma.
Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops throughout his head coaching career averages three losses per year. (5+0+2+2+2+1+4+3+3+2+5+2)/12 = 31/12 = 2.58 rounds to 3) This year Oklahoma has exactly three losses. If they can beat Bob Stoop’s Alma mater, Iowa, they can achieve an average Bob Stoops season at Oklahoma. However Bob Stoops who has proclaimed that Oklahoma is about winning championships is taking the failure to win a championship out on his players forcing them to endure grueling practices and throwing/driving players off the team. This is exact opposite from OSU coach Mike Gundy who let his players have extra time off and all season has scaled back practice time and limits contact.
The University of Tulsa used Steve Kragthorpe’s NFL techniques to turn around their program from the depths they sunk to under Keith Burns. This legacy helps them get quarterbacks who might not have given a small school in Conference USA a second look. Tulsa puts their legacy against their old WAC conference foe BYU. Much has changed for BYU. They are an independent and they aren’t the pass happy team they one were. Their defense is however better and somehow Tim Tebow from wild Florida seems to have grabbed the virtuous reputation.
