“The Xtra Factor” co-hosts Olly Murs, 27, and Caroline Flack, 32, reportedly had a fling. And in a new interview with OK! magazine (U.K.), Murs has commented on the rumored hookup:
“It’s [a bit of] fun. It really is just a bit off banter and it’s a laugh. I’ve always said that in the future you never know and at the moment we’ve just had our professional heads on as we want the show to be successful.”
Murs came in second place on “The X Factor” U.K. in 2009. He and Murs began co-hosting “The Xtra Factor” in May 2011. It was not made clear when they had their hookup.
Flack has also reportedly been dating 17-year-old Harry Styles of One Direction, the singing group that came in third place on “The X Factor” U.K. in 2010. She has admitted in interviews that she has been having a relationship with Styles, but she has not called him her “boyfriend,” and she has not said whether or not the relationship is exclusive.
Flack and Styles have reportedly been dating since October 2011. British tabloids have reported that Styles has spent the night at Flack’s home multiple times, and that she has met Styles’ mother, who reportedly disapproves of the relationship. In the United Kingdom, the minimum legal age of consent to have sexual intercourse is 16 years old.
As for Murs and Flack’s fling, it was apparently exposed by “The X Factor” U.K. judge Louis Walsh on “The Xtra Factor” during a live Skype interview on December 10, 2011, with “The X Factor” executive producer Simon Cowell.
According to OK! magazine:
Louis Walsh seemed to confirm that, after months of speculation, Caroline and Olly DID get it on, during Saturday’s live Skype chat with Simon Cowell.
After Simon asked what had gone on between the pair, Louis blurted out: “It did, Simon,” with The X Factor boss replying: “Olly, you look very guilty.”
Both presenters then looked a bit sheepish, with Olly nervously adding: “I got my mistletoe handy.”
Murs also told OK! that his song “I Need You Now” (which is on Murs’ second album, “In Case You Didn’t Know”) is an autobiographical tune about his search to find the woman who will become his wife:
“There’s one song called ‘I Need You Now,’ which is the last track on the album,” And it was basically me trying to find the right girl, and I know I’ve spoken about it a lot – but I needed to put down how I feel about it. [It’s about] me thinking about settling down and getting married. In this industry you can have success and you can have everything …
I get to live the most amazing life, but to not have someone to share that with can be quite sad at times. So I wrote a song about it. It’s one of my favorite tracks.”
Murs experienced massive success in the U.K. in 2011: He had two No. 1 songs on the U.K. singles chart (“Heart Skips a Beat” and “Dance With Me Tonight”), while “In Case You Didn’t Know” was also No. 1 on the U.K. album chart. As previously reported, Murs is headlining a U.K. arena tour that begins in February 2012.
