Android devices have hit the market with overnight spectacular success. Android is defined by Wikipedia as an operating system for mobile devices such as smartphones and tablet computers. The Android devices were developed by the Open Handset Alliance which was led by Google. In 2005 Google purchased the initial developer of the software, Android Inc. Android devices have been incredibly popular with many consumers in Syracuse following a national trend of buying Android devices.
Vlad Savov has reported for The Verge “3.7 million Android devices activated over Christmas weekend.” Andrew E. Rubin, who oversees development of Android, has broadcast on Twitter that a spectacular 3.7 million new Android devices were activated over the Christmas holiday weekend. That came out to a 1.85 million daily average which was more than double Android’s current rate of 700,000 daily activations and marks an unbelievable successful period for vendors of Google’s mobile OS.
Flurry Analytics has also published its findings on new phone and app purchases over the Christmas weekend, reporting that an amazing 6.8 million new iOS and Android devices went live on Sunday. That comes out to three and a half times the December average. App downloads also exceeded all previously known levels, with a jump to 242 million on Christmas Day. And so it looks like Android devices will continue to be a hot selling devices in 2012.
