This is the third movie in the franchise that proves you don’t need a hundred million dollar special effects budget to make a good movie. Most people either love or hate the Paranormal Activity movies. Anyone who enjoyed the first two will enjoy this one.
This is a prequel and gives some answers as to why this particular family is plagued. It takes place when the sisters are around eight and nine years old. This film does a good job of tying the entire series together while at the same time leaving some events of the girls lives unanswered for what will inevitably be a Paranormal Activity 4. It has some good scares and like all horror movies some moments that will cause you to jump without cause. It does a really good job of setting an eerie tone throughout and contains numerous moments that will give you goose bumps. Overall I thought it was well done with good acting and a good storyline.
For those wanting to see this movie because of the trailers should be aware that they are not accurate. This seems to be an intentional move by the studio. While the overall theme of the movie is easily conveyed in the trailers the scenes themselves are not the same. Most notably the bloody mary scene does take place but not the way that is depicted in the trailer. This is either a way to sell more DVDs with alternate scenes and endings or the studio answer to people complaining about seeing the best parts of a movie in the trailer.
