Lady Marmalade hit maker Patti LaBelle is being sued by a New York couple who have accused the singer of throwing a water bottle and verbally attacking a mother and her 18-month -old daughter on November 10, 2010.
Fox News reported that Kevin and Rosanna Monk filed a lawsuit in New York on Monday November 14, 2011. The couple have accused Patti LaBelle of physically, and verbally attacking the mother, and daughter outside their Manhattan apartment building, frightening the toddler to the point that she now suffers emotionally.
The Monk’s claim that they were getting ready to leave on a family outing and while Kevin monk got the car,his wife Rosanna carrying their 18-month-old daughter Genevieve and luggage approached the lobby of the Riverside Boulevard apartment building.
Rosanna stopped to put down their daughter in the lobby when she stated “Someone came up behind me and said,’Do you know what your daughter is doing?’ I said ‘yes’ and went to pick her up.”
This is when the couple claim that Patti LaBelle became very angry and physically aggressive shouting “You shouldn’t have left your daughter by the door!”
When Rosanna Monk responded “I have no interest in what you think,” she alleges LaBelle became very enraged and began cussing at her, calling her the C-word and using the F-word in a loud angry voice. Mrs. Monk goes on to claim that LaBelle had a water bottle in her hand and started “flicking water from it” at her.
Monk claims the angry display upset her daughter to the point that she was hysterical, causing her to say to Patti LaBelle “Look what you’ve done to my daughter!” Monk claims it was at this point that LaBelle then lunged at the mother–who was holding her crying toddler– and was restrained by her entourage and escorted to a waiting car. Monk claims that her daughter was crying so hard it caused her to vomit.
The court papers reveal that the Monk’s later sent LaBelle a note asking that she apologize, but was ignored. They are also stating that ever since the incident last November their daughter has suffered “personality changes, sleep disorder” and “increased fear of strangers.”
The Monk’s are seeking unspecified damages.Their attorney Sam Davis, stated that he took the case for free, and that the Monk’s plan to donate any money they receive to a children’s cancer charity.
Davis also said “The purpose is to hold Patti LaBelle responsible for her conduct..“That kind of behavior is completely unacceptable, especially when aimed at a kindergarten teacher carrying an 18-month-old child.”
This is the second lawsuit of 2011 aimed at Patti LaBelle who was recently sued in June by a West Point Cadet, who claims LaBelle’s bodyguards beat him up according to Gossip Cop.

Christy C of Cincinnati said “If Patti LaBelle attacked this woman and her child she should be sued. I tend to believe the couple. They want to donate the money,so it appears that they are not just out looking for windfall.”
Should Patti LaBelle apologize and make a sizable donation for her behavior?
