People are not mum about the appointment of Paula White as the senior pastor of New Destiny Christian Center that was started in 1996 by Zachery and Riva Tims, husband and wife at the time. Dr. Zachery Tims, senior pastor died August 12, 2011 in a hotel room in New York of unknown causes.

At the news conference Riva Tims said, “I will no longer be silent over who the church’s board members chose to replace Zachary Tims. The board has refused to meet with me.They have refused to meet with me in any capacity, and so has Pastor Paula White. I declare to you today that as founder of New Destiny Christian Center, I am the real mother.”
Tims said she is grieving and listening to what people are saying. She said the church is her legacy, her heritage and her inheritance, and that’s why she intends to challenge the board’s decision.

Robert Gibson, Riva Tims’ attorney, said, “There are several counts concerning the board, concerning Paula White and the activity the board has taken which we feel is illegal.” Gibson also said that Riva Tims is the legal and rightful heir to the church according to law.
“The decision over who should lead New Destiny should be made by members of the congregation, not the board of directors. It’s the choice of the church, not the choice of the board.”

Bishop I.V. Hilliard of New Christian Center Church in Houston stepped down from the selection board for choosing a new pastor. He said, “My commitment to integrity will not allow me to support something that I believe is deceptive and that comprises previously agreed upon procedures and protocol.”
