Every day, sometimes multiple times a day, we hear about the stories of beloved dogs who have become caught up in the snare of Breed Specific Legislation (BSL).
Around the globe, innocent lives are lost, families are ripped apart and hearts are broken, all because the media has focused in on the few bad deeds committed by dogs whose guardians either intentionally trained them to be vicious, or who never took the time to teach them proper manners. Whichever is the case, the breed isn’t at fault; the humans are.
The petition linked below is directed at the United States House of Representatives. It asks that this misguided discrimination against an entire breed of dog be stopped. It asks the government representatives take the time to learn the real truth about this breed; the entire truth. To look at the multitude of wonderful things Pit Bulls do every single day, and to stop the discrimination against the breed.
These dogs are gentle and devoted family members. They are dogs for the disabled. They save their families from house fires or burglars intent on harming them. They are playful, strong, loving and incredibly devoted dogs.
Guardians of Pit Bulls everywhere walk in the shadow of this discrimination as well. Because of the all the media hype, uninformed people will avoid them or look at their dog in misguided fear. They aren’t allowed to take their beloved dogs to dog parks where there are regulations stating that only Pit Bulls aren’t allowed. They have to muzzle them when in public. The list goes on and on.
There are so many different forms of discrimination against this breed, and for what? Because a few bad dogs did a few bad things. Labradors, Chihuahuas, Jack Russells and other breeds also do bad things, but does the media tell you each and every story about them? It’s highly doubtful. But let something go wrong with a Pit Bull, and it’s flashed across the news for all to see.
Also linked in the “Recommended by the author” section are prior articles I’ve written about innocent dogs victimized by the discrimination against the breed.
Please consider adding your name to this very important petition. There’s much to be done to end the nightmare of BSL for these innocent dogs. This petition is a good start.
Always remember, today’s it’s the Pit Bulls. Tomorrow, it could be your family member.
