Pittsburgh girls have style and they do it on a budget! Whether they are still living in the city or bringing their style to another place, Pittsburgh girls know how to bargain hunt and look fabulous! Sara, a 25-year-old formerly of Gibsonia who now resides in Marina, California for grad school talks about her style, her best bargain, and that dream purchase!
What is one word to describe your style?
If I had to pick, I’d go with “classic,” but really I just wear what I like, what makes me comfortable, and what fits me well. That being said, I think I can be really boring sometimes, and every so often will try something completely out of my comfort zone. It doesn’t always work, but I love when it does and becomes my favorite outfit. Lesson learned: don’t be afraid to take chances.
What are your wardrobe staples?
Definitely jeans, because it’s pretty much all I wear. I love button-downs as well (fitted or a baggier, boyfriend-cut shirt), tank tops for layering, dresses in the summer, and definitely flats. Words cannot express how much I hate heels!
What is one piece of fashion you could never pull off?
That’s a tie between rompers and high-waisted jeans. I think both call a little too much attention to the hips for my taste.
What is your favorite clothing season (fall, winter, spring, summer)?
Summer and fall — Summer because I love throwing on a dress and flats, and fall because I love being comfortable and warm in just a cardigan.
What stores do you regularly shop in?
I’m both picky and impatient, and there’s no decent malls where I live so I tend to do a lot of online shopping. I’m most drawn to American Eagle (they always have some sort of sale going on and I love their button-downs and sweaters), H&M, Lucky Brand, and my discount-designer websites – Hautelook.com and ideeli.com. You can find amazing deals on bags, shoes, clothes, even hotel rooms.
What was the best deal you ever found?
I’m most proud of my knee-high, leather, flat Steve Madden boots that I found for 30% off. I googled discount codes and got an additional 20% off. They went from $110 to $55!
If you were given $1000 and could splurge on one item of clothing/shoes/purses/jewelry, what would you buy?
Can I pick all of the above? $1,000 goes a LONG way if you know how to shop smart!
