Powerball Lottery Taxes Need to be Paid!
If you match all six Powerball winning numbers Wednesday night, you’ll have to pay state and federal taxes on the jackpot. Some states like Pennsylvania, pay no state tax on lottery winnings. Other states like Connecticut have a 6.5 percent state tax imposed on lottery winners.
If you’re tonight’s lucky Powerball winner, and live in Connecticut, and you happen to choose the cash-value amount of $12,600,000, you’ll end up giving Uncle Sam 25 percent in federal taxes, or $3,150,000, and another 6.5 percent in state taxes, or $819,000. Your final Powerball jackpot check will be roughly $8,631,000 after taxes.

The next Powerball drawing is December 31, 2011 at 10:59pm ET. No one won Wednesday’s Powerball drawing, so the next estimated Powerball jackpot is $25,000,000 annuity.
