On the next episode of The Walking Dead, “Chupacabra”, things take a huge turn for the worse as zombies pay a visit to Hershel’s farm, the search for Sophia becomes a search for a body, and an old enemy comes back to join the group.

We can learn a lot from the trailer for tomorrow night’s The Walking Dead. Walkers invade the farm, Hershel tries to make sure his family and the new survivors stay separate, the search for Sophia gets seriously desperate.
But the entire preview is overshadowed by one thing: Merle Dixon.
Nevermind all the exciting screenshots of people wielding axes and knives and crossbows, riding horses into the woods, and generally going about life in the zombiepocalypse in a very predictable manner. Merle is back. His shocking reappearance comes near the end of the preview, and his face is only shown briefly as he says, “I just don’t think you’re gonna make it.”
Now, when we left Merle he was handcuffed to a roof in downtown Atlanta, trying desperately to reach a hacksaw so he could escape from his imminent zombie-fueled demise. The next we see of him is… well, is his severed hand, found on the rooftop when Rick, Glenn, T-Dog, and Daryl come back on their rescue mission.
So his reappearance could mean a few things:
- The tough mofo has tracked the survivors in order to exact his vengeance.
- He has found Sophia in the woods and is generously returning her to her mother and the safety of the group (Hah! Just kidding. Nobody actually thinks this is a possibility).
- He’s a hallucination of Daryl’s, which means something has happened to Daryl to make him have hallucinations of his brother.
Whatever the reason, Michael Rooker returns to The Walking Dead as Merle Dixon tomorrow night in “Chupacabra.”
