FORT WAYNE, Indiana (Isabelle Zehnder reporting) — A 39-year-old male babysitter, who confessed to killing missing 9-year-old Aliahna Lemmon two days before Christmas, was charged Friday in her brutal death and dismemberment.
Aliahna went missing Dec. 23. Police believe that is the day Michael Plumadore killed her.
Plumadore was allegedly a friend and neighbor who was entrusted to care for Aliahna and her two younger sisters, ages 6 and 8, for about a week while their mother recovered from the flu.
Following an intensive two-day search for the missing girl and three police interviews, Plumadore confessed to killing Aliahna and told police where they could find her dismembered body.
Prosecutors filed charging documents Friday morning, charging Plumadore with: (1) Murder; (2) Abuse of a Corpse; and (3) Removing a dead body from the scene. Plumadore is being held without bond and did not attend Friday’s hearing.
Danielle Edenfield, the Chief Investigator for the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office, said charges will be read to Plumadore in jail. She said an initial court hearing on the formal charges will likely be held next week, CBS News reports.
Court documents reveal Plumadore admitted he hit Aliahna repeatedly in the head with a brick as they stood on his front porch early last Friday morning. After she died, he said he placed her body into trash bags and put her into the freezer of the home where he was staying.
He said that later in the day he removed her from the freezer, used a hacksaw to dismember her body, put her body parts into freezer bags, then put most of the bags in a nearby dumpster. For more details, read the timeline.
Plumadore confessed late Monday, telling police where they could find Alianha’s body. He said her head, feet, and hands were in the freezer. Police obtained a warrant to search the trailer and found the body parts.
Police arrested Plumadore Monday night. He has a criminal record in Florida and North Carolina that include convictions for trespassing, assault, and forgery.
HLN’s Nancy Grace asked Allen County Sheriff Ken Fries Tuesday evening if Aliahna’s two younger girls had been medically examined. He said no, the girls had not been examined.
An email was sent to the Allen County Sheriff’s Department spokesman, Jeremy Tinkel, to determine if there were plans for the girls to be medically evaluated. He wrote in an email Wednesday, “We will not release information regarding the examination of the other children.”

The fact that there were 15 registered sex offenders living in about two dozen singlewides in the small trailer park where Aliahna lived with her mother, stepfather, and two sisters, and where Plumadore lived, raised concerns.
Asked to confirm if Plumadore is a registered sex offender, Tinkel said, “No, Plumadore IS NOT a registered sex offender.”
Asked to verify that Aliahna’s grandfather, James E. Lemmon, was a registered sex offender before his recent death on Dec. 3, 2011, Tinkel said, “The picture and information about Lemmon is correct.”
Plumadore was friends with James Lemmon for several years. When he learned how ill Lemmon was he returned to Indiana to care for him until his death. Plumadore was still living in Lemmon’s home after he died. It is unknown if Lemmon and/or Plumadore cared for the young girls before he died.
Allen County Sheriff Ken Fries said Friday that the sheriff’s department is moving the moblie home, now at 9435 Leo Road, to an undisclosed location due to a request from the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office.
