While I’m categorically opposed to New Years Resolutions, I do tend to recommit to wellness several times a year. And really, there is no better time than the fresh start of a new year. So while I may not be making any official New Year’s resolutions, I am resolving to be just a little more active in 2012. And an active girls needs the right clothes that fit an active lifestyle, right?
I practically live in yoga pants after work and on weekends. I cook in them, clean in them, walk in them and even sometimes do yoga in them. They are my go-to “uniform” to wear for hanging out, running errands, practically anything. So I’m constantly shopping for them – searching for the perfect pair. When I think I find them, I inevitably buy several pairs. And they look good, until the first washing. This is when the jet black color begins to fade to a lesser shade of black. An ashy grey really, with a navy blue undertone. And the pilling begins. When I’d had enough of this cycle, I asked my Twitter followers a straightforward question: “Most flattering black yoga pant recommendations? Pants that fade or pill need not apply. Boot cut preferred. Willing to pay big $$!”. The overwhelming response? Yoga pants by Lululemon.
I am now the proud owner of a pair of Lululemon Groove Pants, the style that arguably “started it all” with the Lululemon craze. Flattering on a variety of body types and a go-to for first time buyers, The Groove Pant is an all-purpose low impact sport pant that craves the bending and stretching of yoga. Designed in the first Lululemon Athletica store in Vancouver, these pants have a tank-like build that isn’t uncommon to last for YEARS! If there’s a downside, at $98 they are a bit pricey. But I’ve done the math – if I don’t have to replace my yoga pants every few months due to fading and pilling, I’m ahead of the game even at a premium price.
The four-way moisture wicking stretch pants are preshrunk and made with Lulumon’s signature cotton-feel fabric, Luon. The waistband is flat and smooth with a hidden pocket for keys, ID, cash and cards. The Groove pant is low rise with a flared leg fit and an inseam of 31 1/2 incehes. They also come in tall sizes, but not sizes for petites. At 4’11”, this isn’t necessarily a deal breaker for me. I’ve been having my pants hemmed all my life. My yoga pants are no different and they’ll soon be on their way to my favorite tailor.
Here’s to your New Year’s resolutions, your recommitment to more activity and better eating, or whatever your goals are in 2012.
