Certainly all of you veteran gamers remember the long nights spent playing Silent Hill on the original Playstation. Silent Hill is a mythical town filled with surreal horror and chilling surprises around every corner. The town draws it’s victims to it due to some prior unusual circumstance that involved the tortured souls of the town. The place is alive with pure darkness and horrifying creatures that represent a type of karma and sweet revenge on those whom have wronged in the past. The main character is the town its self, however the player character always assumes they are an innocent victim in a nightmare world, just to discover the price to pay for the sins they either forgot about or were unaware of. Next year Konami takes us back to Silent Hill in a new way with the next chapter of horror.
Silent Hill: Downpour is the eighth installment to the survival horror Silent Hill series. The story follows Murphy Pendleton who is a prisoner aboard a prison transport vehicle that crashes right outside the town of Silent Hill. He finds him self stranded and with a taste of freedom that he now voes he will not lose by going back to prison. But he soon discovers that not all prisons come in the form of bars and chains, sometimes they come in the form of nightmares.
In the rain he tries to escape, but he is being pursued by Anne Cunningham who is a corrections officer trying to gather up the surviving prisoners. But Murphy discovers freedom isn’t as sweet as he pictured, when he finds the world around him reshaping into an alternate world of darkness and demonic creatures that crave blood. It is also discovered that water has some sort of link to the surreal events that place around him, the water has a direct link between the sins of the player and the forced fate he is facing.
The storyline of Silent Hill: Downpour is completely separate from other titles in the series. The story is focused mostly on Murphy, and it takes place in a part of the town that has never been explored before, however fans will be pleased to see familiar places like the hospital and the school from previous titles.
There will new fight system in Downpour which makes the player rely mostly on melee weapons, but the weapons have a breaking point and the player can only carry one at a time, so remember to always keep an eye out for them. But don’t worry, there will still be a nice selection of weapons and firearms, but be careful with your ammo. Downpour will also employ the over the shoulder view similar to Homecoming, and Murphy will also have a useable dodge for evading enemy attacks.
Silent Hill: Downpour will have more of a sandbox type feel, which is new to the series, and it will be packed with side missions that the player can either choose to do or choose not to do. But choices made with events and side missions effect the the final outcome of the game, which is something Silent Hill fans are familiar with, however not as in-depth as in Downpour. The game is being developed by Vatra Games and published by Konami, it will use Unreal Engine 3 and will be released in march of 2012 on both PS3 and Xbox 360.
