If you are thinking of how to add that special touch to your NYE celebration, consider adding sparkling wine to the party. I have compiled my favorite sparklers of 2011…most of which can carry you well through 2012.
1. Schramsberg Vineyards Cremant – This wine is a smooth, slightly sweet sparkler from Napa Valley. It has been called “creamy”, hence the name, and is a wonderful pre or post-dinner wine. A bittle will run you $19 – $30 at your local wine shop. Try the Wine Emporium in the South End to grab a bottle.
2. Sophia Blanc des Blancs – This is one of my favorite go-to wines for any party. It is a clean wine made from Pinot Blanc grapes, and tastes of citrus and florals. A bottle will run you about $20 at Clarendon Wine in Boston’s Back Bay.
3. Chandon Blanc de Noirs – This is another Napa Valley sparkling wine, and is made from primarily Pinot Noir grapes. This wine is known for its fuller flavor, due to the red wine grapes, and its fruity character. Shaw’s in Back Bay had this wine on sale for $16.
4. Veuve Clicquot Brut Yellow Label – This wine is distinctly yellow, and known for its fruity smell and ultra-smooth finish. This is an actual French Champagne, coming from the Champagne region in France. It is so good, its worth a splurge. You can find it at Shaw’s in Back Bay on sale for $45 this holiday.
Happy New Year to your and yours! May you have a wonderful celebration as you ring in 2012!
