MSNBC reported this morning, December 30, 2011, that “With only four days to go before the Iowa caucuses,” the GOP presidential hopefuls were on their final sprint – for those important “Iowa Stubborn” votes. Leave it to an engaging five-year-old from Texas, singing ‘Iowa Stubborn,’ the opening tune of the “Music Man,” on video to sum up how most of the candidates must feel.
In the not-to-be-missed video, available on the left side bar, the unidentified, pint-sized talent belts out the song with gusto, and is sure to make everyone, their politics not withstanding, smile with her heartfelt delivery of these telling lines about Iowans in a high-pressured political week:
We can be cold as our falling thermometers in December if you ask about our weather in July.
And we’re so by God stubborn, we could stand touchin’ noses for a week at a time and never see eye-to-eye.
Ironically when prompted off-camera with the lyrics of the chorus after the wee girl pronounced her song, “Done,” she erupted, “That means I do it all again? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?”
Precisely how the candidates must view visiting Iowan towns and municipalities, once more, before their last chance to reach the hearts of Iowa vanishes. Right now, according to the latest poll NBC poll, Romney is leading Ron Paul by barely a breath; Newt Gingrich is plunging because of a very effective Romney Pac negative ad campaign; and the rest of the GOP contenders — they are in a jumble of low polls behind Romney and Paul.
NBC POLL: ROMNEY 23 – PAUL 21 – SANTORUM 15 – PERRY 14 – GINGRICH 13 – BACHMANN 6
It will be interesting to see how those stubborn Iowans vote with no do-overs for the candidates.
