In an exclusive Conservative Examiner interview, a Ron Paul insider disclosed today that he has defected from the Texas Congressman’s campaign. He further disclosed that a new organization is being formed that will train grassroots delegates to the Republican convention next summer as a means of strengthening the voices of conservatives who adhere to Constitutional principles.
Critics state that the controversy over newsletters that the Congressman sent to potential supporters in the past contain a major stumbling block to many who work in the Paul campaign.
Critics say the newsletters pander to racists.
Although the candidate himself states that he had nothing to do with writing the controversial portions of the newsletters in question, defectors maintain that Paul’s refusal to do anything about those who did is tantamount to Penn State’s former football coach Joe Paterno’s failure to be proactive in removing those accused of child abuse from his staff, leading to his resignation.
For this reason, a few defectors walked away from the Paul campaign, some of whom have served for years.
Now, at least two Ron Paul defectors wish to start a new organization that will train local delegates to the various state Republican conventions and also train delegates to the national Republican convention prior to the 2012 Presidential election.
One of the critics stated,
We are two former Ron Paul supporters who don’t believe that Ron Paul can win or that Mitt Romney deserves to win. And we are saying, please, we want another choice.
Many believe that the current field of Republican candidates is unacceptable, particularly to conservatives. And they do not want ‘Party bosses’ deciding who will be the nominee. Instead they envision the following:
So I am trying to build a nationwide organization aimed at teaching the large number of Republicans who know that there is not a current contender who can beat Obama about the rules of their state’s convention.
The point would be to teach them how to become national delegates.
They will, of course, be bound on the first ballot — i.e., the state vote will be in proportion to the primary result in that state.
When asked how they plan to go about training delegates, the defectors responded,
We plan to produce five to ten videos that would teach the general principles. Then we would have to do state by state focus groups because the rules are different in every state.
But if no candidate gets majority, they would be free to dismiss all of the finalists and start all over.
And what no one seems to be grasping is that there is a high chance that because of rules changes, no candidate will have a majority one minute before the roll call vote at the convention.
For several months this writer has occasionally reported rumors that are afloat in certain Republican circles concerning the possibility of what is known as a ‘brokered’ convention–a national convention in which no one has yet received a majority of delegates required to win and in which each candidate fails to garner enough votes on the convention floor to be declared the nominee.
Should such a scenario play out, an undeclared candidate could emerge as one around whom most of the delegates could rally, giving conservatives a golden opportunity to draft a candidate on the convention floor, who would then be chosen as the one who would ‘bring the Republican Party together in unity.’
This movement is still in its infancy stage and the groundwork is still being laid. Thus, this is a work in progress.
