Even if you’re not playing in the Rose Bowl Game—even if you’ve never donned cleats and a helmet in your life—you can be a football hero for a snapshot.
Tiffany & Co. in Pasadena is displaying the Rose Bowl Game trophy in its store at 68 W. Colorado Blvd. Fans can stop by and get a photo taken with the trophy on Wednesday, Dec. 28 and Thursday, Dec. 29 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. A professional photographer will be on hand each day from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., and will email the photos following the event.
The trophy is also known as the Leishman Trophy after the Leishman family, which has a long tradition with the Tournament of Roses. 1920 Tournament of Roses President William L. Leishman was responsible for the construction of the Rose Bowl Stadium, which he modeled after the Yale Bowl. His son, 1939 Tournament of Roses President Lathrop K. Leishman, was instrumental in helping establish the Rose Bowl Game as the “Granddaddy of Them All.”
Tiffany & Co. has designed and crafted the Rose Bowl Game trophy at its Parsippany, N.J. workshop since 2004. It features a three-quarter size football in kicking position, rendered in sterling silver. It is 21 inches tall and made of nearly 16 pounds of sterling silver. It takes two weeks to complete.
The theme of the 123rd Rose Parade and 98th Rose Bowl Game is “Just Imagine…” The events take place on Monday, Jan. 2, 2012 to avoid interfering with worship services on Sunday. The Tournament of Roses is a celebration that lasts several weeks in the fall and winter, with the high points being the Rose Parade presented by Honda and the Rose Bowl Game presented by VIZIO.
