Heading into the 2011 bye week, the New Orleans Saints are sitting at 7-3 and atop the NFC South with a 1.5 game lead over the Atlanta Falcons. So no matter what happens while the Saints have a week of rest, they will come back to face the New York Giants and still be in first place in the division.
The new Power Rankings are out though and all the major media outlets have their say on where they believe the Saints land among the 32 NFL teams.
~ FoxSports has the Saints up one spot to number six:
Impressive for the Saints to go into Atlanta, where the Falcons tend to be unbeatable, and come away with an overtime victory. Drew Brees has thrown for more yards in 10 games than any other QB in NFL history, but in doing so, the Saints rushed for a season low 41 yards on Sunday. They will need to get the running game constant if they are going to hold on to this ranking.
~ CBS brought the Saints up three spots to number six as well:
They go to the bye with a 7-3 record and atop the NFC South. They still need to tighten up that defense.
~ Peter King of SI.com has the Saints at fourth:
Sean Payton being on the field didn’t happen just because he felt antsy and hated being upstairs. It happened because Drew Brees needs him there. They need to be talking and seeing each other after plays and after series. They have the best head coach-quarterback relationship in football.
~ After the Atlanta victory, the Saints are up two spots to number five on NFL.com:
Mike Smith wishes all of you Saints fans out there a Merry Christmas.
~ ESPN picks the Saints up a spot from fourth to third:
Bye week gives the Saints a chance to regroup before welcoming the Giants and Lions to the Superdome for likely shootouts. (Sando)
