Moments ago at the Plaza de Toros in Mexico City, Mexico, WBC junior middleweight champion Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez looked sharp in stopping former champion Kermit Cintron in under five rounds.
It was a feeling out process early on but the 21-year old Alvarez appeared to have the edge and was landing some short, accurate blows. In the fourth Alvarez would catch Cintron with a flush right hand that had him tasting canvas.

One round later Alvarez would land another right hand that would jar Cintron along the ropes, forcing a stoppage from referee Hector Afu.
With the win Alvarez improves his record to 39-0 with 29 knockouts and during a post-fight interview with HBO’s Max Kellerman he called out undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr. for a May clash. Alvarez insisted a fight with Floyd isn’t about the money and that he is instead looking to test himself against the best in the world.
Mayweather’s advisor Leonard Ellerbe recently announced that Floyd was eyeing a May 5th return and Alvarez surely is one of the more high-profile opponents lurking around.
Expect more post-fight coverage from Alvarez-Cintron in the coming hours…
