As we close out the third chapter in the Sepher Yetzirah we see revealed the aspect of the three mothers now seen through Shin. It is almost as through we are looking through a kaleidoscope and turning it this way and that have now Shin in the main focusing ring.

Sepher Yetzirah 3:9 He made Shin king over fire And He bound a crown to it And He combined one with another. And with them He formed Heaven in the Universe Hot in the Year And the head in the Soul: The male with ShAM And the female with ShMA.
Our thoughts come into the area of comprehension arriving in what is called ‘Heaven in the Universe.’ Here is where ideas first receive their marching orders and their internal intention toward unity. You can see that the first order of being contrast and distinction as in…
Genesis 1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
In terms of the Sepher Yetzirah what this means is that all things come into being expecting to become that which they have come in as. This is the eternal mandate of Creation. First, Elokim, Creation, Heaven and Earth. Call this opening phrase of Genesis a quick start guide to Creation. The Fire that Shin is King over is that of which it is said…
Genesis 3 And God said: ‘Let there be light.’ And there was light.
The elements of Creation are by definition preexistent including the three mothers described here. Next the Sepher Yetzirah speaks of ‘Hot in the Year,’ showing us the fecundity of Creation that over time is its growth. Once again Shin the Fire, the Light of Creation is its continuous function throughout the reality of existence.
The Soul has a purpose a destiny to fulfill sometimes over several lifetimes or perhaps even confined to a single act of righteousness. In every event this purpose is fueled by Shin that initial spark that enflames the Soul and gives it the passion to see things through. We can see this as the Male energy is described using ShAM or Fire through Air Water. It is representative of the ultimate transformation of Fire through its dispersal in the air harmonized by Water.
The female acceptance shows how Fire combined through Water gives way to Air representing the natural aspect of gas through the boiling process. Once again the transformations take place demonstrating the energy that moves in either direction above to below, the male energy and below to above the female energy.
These transformations give us the key to studying Torah since with a careful eye we can view them as eternal and yet very much a part of our every day life.
Psalm 2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in His law doth he meditate day and night.
The law that is spoken of is yes the Torah but its deeper meaning revealed in this third section of the Sepher Yetzirah is the eternal constant of Transformation. This is the law upon which we may meditate day and night. B”H
