In a celebration of all things related to winter weather, the West Woods Nature Center in Novelty, Ohio is offering a free, fun, family -oriented special exhibit now until February 29, 2012 entitled “Snowbelted: Winter’s a Blast!” Novelty, Ohio is approximately a 40 minute drive from Cleveland.
Snowbelted: Winter’s a Blast! An interactive, educational exhibit, Snowbelted: Winter’s a Blast! offers a wide variety of informative activities that all ages can enjoy while teaching the secrets of wildlife survival in winter climates.
One of the interactive activities include a chance to experience simulated downhill skiing. In the Winter Weight Lifting Section of the exhibit, visitors can try shoveling snow and experience the difference between light, fluffy snow to heavy snow. You can also try your hand at driving a similated snow plow where you will test your driving skills.
Kids will get to learn how animals have fun in the winter weather by trying out the Otter Banks slide and crawling through vole tunnels.
Other interactive activities show visitors the origin of lake effect snow and you will be able to see the formation of snowflakes up close and personal.
Another section of the exhibit gives you a look at some of the animals that call winter climate area home including bob cats, squirrels, raccoons, beavers, otters and weasels in addition to Northern cardinals, hawks, Great Horned owls and Canada geese.
Don’t miss the section of the exhibit that shows the evolution of winter recreation. Among some of the items that can be viewed are antique wooden skis, ice skates over the years, board games from the past and wooden toys.
Hours for the West Woods Nature Center are 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. daily. The Nature Center will be closed on New Year’s Day. Admission is free as is parking.
