Black Friday brought about a new discovery for me while I was out and about in the Christmas rush. While shopping at Danada, I discovered the new Spotted Paw Spa Boutique that took the place of Sports Fan and the previous pet shop that had a residence there.
I really liked the look of the Spotted Paw, so I stopped in. Then, since I knew that I was not prepared to do them justice, I stopped back today so that I could get their total story.
Michael and Cristyn Zloza, co-owners, and more importantly, husband and wife team extraordinaire, were only too happy to tell me all about their new store. They wanted to explain their philosophies, goals and layout of their store.
Since they have only been open a little more than a week, they were thrilled to get their story out to the masses. It is IMPORTANT to them to get their story out to the masses!
The Spotted Paw has a fantastic philosophy that there will be absolutely no tolerance for any physical or verbal abuse to any animal entrusted to their care; either for grooming or for their doggy-day-care. To go hand-in-hand with that philosophy, Michael and Cris have built their store to have a transparent appearance – in fact, transparency is the key to their success.
The entire back room, where the grooming and day-care take place can be viewed from the entire front of the store. After the dogs are screened for their temperament, if they are viewed as having a good temperament, they are able to run and play in the room so that they are not constantly caged.
This atmosphere lends itself to their other philosophy of maintaining a STRESS-FREE, CLEAN, SAFE and LOVING experience for both your beloved dog AND you! Because of this part of their philosophy, Michael and Cris utilize lots of praise and positive reinforcement that helps them to succeed!
They are so bent on maintaining their goals that they actually interviewed 40 groomers and only selected two of them. Besides them and the two groomers, they have one full-time and one part-time bather for the dogs. Their goal in this respect is to maintain quality vs. quantity!
Besides the grooming and day-care, Spotted Paw is accentuating the fact that their customers are the most important aspect of their business! Their business is not very full yet with boutique products as they want to customize the products to their customers’ desires; ie: Doggie Blackhawk Jerseys! This product would be perfect in my household since Q is our goalie dog and serves that purpose for his two hockey playing brothers.
I don’t know about you, but I am excited to see exactly what this great store has in store for us in the coming months. Save the date, Ribbon-Cutting for Spotted Paw is December 1st at 10:00 AM. Our great mayor will be there to welcome Spotted Paw into our Wheaton Community!
