It’s been roughly 4 1/2 years since the tragic and sickening murder-suicide of Chris Benoit and his family. The terrible tragedy captured the entire nation as pro-wrestling, steroids and concussions became hot topics for heated debates on every major talk show. Unfortunately, it appears that many people will have to relive those terrible days as SRG Films is planning on making a biographical film on the life of Chris Benoit which will begin filming in late 2012, according to a Saturday December 3rd report by WhatCulture.com.
SRG Films has bought the rights to the popular book “Ring of Hell: The Story of Chris Benoit and the Fall of the Pro Wrestling Industry” written by Matthew Randazzo. The title of the film is tentatively titled “Crossface” which was also the name of Benoit’s popular wrestling hold the “Crippler Crossface”.
Benoit was an amazing wrestler who had the ability to captivate audiences with his intense wrestling style. He became a world champion in both WCW and the WWE after conquering promotions worldwide. Sadly, his wrestling career became an afterthought when he killed his wife Nancy Benoit and his son, before hanging himself in late June 2007.
Benoit was one of my favorite wrestlers, especially after meeting him a few times. His actions disturbed me greatly to the point where I don’t ever talk about him and haven’t watched a match of his since the tragic deaths of Nancy and their son. I can’t imagine this film bringing anything positive to the table. In fact, I see it painting a negative light on pro-wrestling and opening up the wounds of all of the people who truly suffered from this tragedy. I personally would prefer that this film not be made and that the family and friends of the Benoit family can continue to try and live in whatever peace they’ve been able to find since June 2007.
