Staging is expensive. That’s a popular misconception and simply not true. Staging fees vary across the country but in general you can expect to pay around $200.00 for a consultation. That means a professional stager will come to your home and give you what the industry refers to as a “walk and talk”. Many will provide a detailed report in that fee. Some stagers will charge extra for the service. Make sure you know that prior to booking a stager. The great thing about a written report is that it provides a plan that enables a seller to stage their own home.

She and husband Ed went the DIY route after a detailed staging consultation.
It took the Potters only a week to implement their staging plan. They started with the part of the house where the “emotional purchase” is made, the area a buyer sees first. “For us that meant making the living room as large and friendly as possible. We had great bones to start with as we had freshly refinished hardwoods, newer windows, ventilated closet shelving and recent exterior paint. Clearing out the majority of our house helped immensely.”
Their home went under contract seven days after listing. Seven days. “Utilizing a stager gave us an impartial perspective on our house, both the positives and the negatives,” Potter said. “Our stager helped us realize how a space is used on a daily basis is not necessarily how the space will show best.”
