Stars shone bright in the RE 5 to 7 Live studios as a plethora of Dancehall superstars appeared on the popular entertainment show.
The show kicked off with an energetic performance from internationally-acclaimed Dancehall/ Reggae singjay, I-Octane, who dazzled RE’s stage with hit singles such as, One Ting Mi Kno Seh and Burn Dem Bridge. The singjay, who’s set to unveil a new EP (Extended Play) entitled, Straight From The Heart on December 6, intimated that he’s pleased with the progress shown through his music and brand.
Additionally, the recently re-signed Digicel Ambassador claims that he’s yet to accomplish every goal desired within music and want to help mold the next generation of Dancehall/Reggae stars.
“Even if I doe fully accomplish from it, I pave the way for the new utes dat a come up,”I-Octane said.
Meanwhile, the award-winning singjay revealed that his debut album, Crying To The Nation, will drop near the end of January 2012 and that the launch for it will take place in New York. The album features productions from DJ Frass, Christopher Birch and several overseas producers as well.
Next to drop by the RETV 5 to 7 Live set was well-renowned dancer turned deejay, Ding Dong who performed his new hit song, Snap Back. According to the Holiday deejay, Snap Back hails as the new style in Jamaica.
“Who a wear fitted a yard, stop it cause a snap back we wear u zimmi. Video coming soon,” Ding Dong said.
Despite the success enjoyed as a result of his many hit singles, including the aforementioned Holiday and Gallis, Ding Dong implied that’s he’s yet to reach his full potential within the music industry.
“Mi wan reach pon di mainstream market..mi nuh reach where mi wan go yet. Have whole leap more work fi do,”he intimated.
Next on the cards was popular deejay, Macka Diamond who promoted and performed her new single, Wine for which the accompanying video premiered via WorldStarHipHop.com last week. Additionally, she performed her hit songs, You Like It on the Overproof Riddim and Cowfoot before revealing that she’s scheduled to tour New York and Canada to promote her new album, Don’t Disturb Mi.
Last up amongst artistes was fellow, prominent female deejay, Tifa. The highly-regarded deejay, whose stepfather was a producer, insisted that her mother was her main source of encouragement while pursuing her music career.
“Is sommen that I love from eva since. My mother never made me feel different. If I wanted to play sports, I played sports. If I wanted to do music, I did music. She hone di talent,”Tifa revealed.
Tifa intimated that tries to incorporate all aspects of the performing arts in her craft and loved how her music career has progressed, despite claiming she initially wanted to act.
Also a judge on KFC Jamaica’s On The Verge, Tifa said that she feels conflicted when judging contestants on the talent show but urged that they have to step up their game this season.
“Mi feel very bad sometime, Mi too honest. Sometimes mi feel bad fi di contestants. Is sommen huge, is sommen big. If you a come pon On The Verge stage, yuh need fi bring it.”
Tifa is also dabbling into the party business; promoting her upcoming Pink Ecstasy session that’s scheduled to take place next month whilst intimating that she decided to take on this venture as a means of enjoying herself more.
Other tidbits on Saturday’s show included veteran actor, Christopher McFarlane, who conceded that despite the success of theatre in Jamaica whilst using limited resources, the industry is very costly. However, McFarlane offered an intriguing solution to help fix the problem.
“For me, I think we need fi start fi do free work. We have to lay the foundation. Sometimes we need not to think about the money,” he said.
McFarlane, a commercial theatre participant since 1999, will feature in Dahlia Harris’ upcoming play, Back a Yard. The plot focuses on a man returning from England to Jones Town, where he struggles with the inner-city culture and environmental changes since leaving Jamaica. The film also feature fellow established actor, Deon Silvera.
With regards to the charts, Portmore Empire deejay, Popcaan continues his recent run of form as he took the #1 spot in the singles and video charts for Only Man She Want and Clean respectively.
