Towson Tigers freshmen running back won the CAA Offensive Player of the Week Award for his efforts against the Maine Black Bears on Saturday.
The Tigers beat the Black Bears 40-30 and improved to 5-1 in the CAA. The Black Bears were previously undefeated in the CAA are now 5-1 as well.
West was a monster the entire game, he scored three rushing touchdowns and rushed for 183 yards on 21 carries. West averaged 8.7 yards per carry, his long gain was 48 yards. West has now been honored five times by the CAA in weekly awards. All the other awards have been the CAA Rookie of the Week Award.
Tigers’ junior running back Tremayne Dameron also had a good game against the Black Bears. Dameron had a 100 plus yards rushing game, totaling 109 rushing yards and a touchdown on 19 carries. Dameron also had a 33-yard touchdown reception.
The running attack for the Tigers was so good that the Tigers put up 40 points despite the fact that quarterback Grant Enders only completed six out of 13 passes.
The Tigers will need West to be at his best again as they face the New Hampshire Wildcats next Saturday. The Wildcats are another strong 5-1 team and are 7-2 overall just like the Tigers.
