The Grammy Nominations Concert has become a star-studded annual event that is televised in U.S. on CBS. In addition to live performance, the event announces the nominees for the next Grammy Awards. The 2011 Grammy Nominations Concert was held November 20 at the Nokia Theater. Here is what this celebrity who attended the event said in backstage during a press conference in the media room.
THE BAND PERRY
Best New Artist
How does it feel to be nominated for a Grammy?
Kimberly Perry: It’s like a dream. I think it’s one of things where you have sensory overload right at the moment. We flew into L.A. yesterday and got the great news that our debut album went platinum, certified yesterday. And to have the nomination today, it’s just been an amazing 48 hours.
Were you surprised to get a Grammy nomination?
Reid Perry: Yeah. For us, the Super Bowl is the pinnacle of all award shows.
Kimberly Perry: The Grammys!
Reid Perry: The Grammys. Sorry. The Grammys are the pinnacle of all awards shows. And so for us to be nominated for that and actually get to go to the awards show, which will be our first time, will be a great experience.
Kimberly Perry: It kind of is like the Super Bowl almost, because we would always make an event of it in our household. We’re a brother-and-sister band, and so we would get a pizza, make an evening of it, so this would be an equivalent of us making it to the Super Bowl.
Neil Perry: And to add to that, this is the first awards show where we’ve been nominated and actually been there to experience the nomination too. We’ve always been in airports and stuff, but this is the first time we actually got to be here and be nominated. So it’s pretty amazing.
How would you describe how you experienced the year 2011?
Kimberly Perry: For us, it’s been a ton of “firsts.” We started it out at the ACM [Academy of Country Music] Awards and got Best New Artist. And we just came back from the CMA [Country Music Association] Awards, where we took home three. And we have a show coming up at the Ryman [Auditorium in Nashville], which will be our very first headlining show in Nashville, and we sold it out in 20 minutes.
So it’s been one thing after another — just amazing, real artist milestones for us. I think Christmas, there’s no competition this year. There’s nothing we can get that can compete with all that we’ve accomplished this year.
Speaking of Christmas, what’s your favorite Christmas song?
Kimberly Perry: “O Holy Night.”
What do you think about the other Grammy nominees in the Best New Artist category?
Kimberly Perry: The first thing we said when the nominations were read were, “It’s such a diverse group of artists.” So we’re so excited. The Band Perry, we’re representing country music in the category. But I’m just so amazed at the variety. We’re so excited to be a part of it.
