2011 was a big year for fans of Cassandra Clare’s The Infernal Devices and 2012 is sure to deliver more amazing moments with the anticipation of its conclusion with ‘Clockwork Princess’ (release date not yet set but listed as Sept. 2013 on Clare’s site) and as more news on both movie franchises’ becomes available.
Below is a list of some of my favorite 2011 Infernal Devices highlights (in no particular order). Did your favorite not make my list? Please share it in a comment.
– Jem’s look– Fans got to see Jem’s “look” when the cover for ‘Clockwork Prince’ was revealed.
– ‘Clockwork Prince’ debuted number one on the NYT Bestseller list.
– Cecily! Finally after reading ‘Clockwork Prince,’ we know who Cecily is.
– Ed Westwick returns– Fan favorite Westwick returned to narrate the ‘Clockwork Prince’ audiobook along with Heather Lind. He also voiced ‘City of Fallen Angels’ with Molly C. Quinn.
– Would Ed Westwick be a good Will? In a conversation with Cassandra, Ed commented about being interested in the role of Will Herondale. Could you see him playing the snarky shadowhunter?
– A ‘Clockwork Angel’ script?– The Infernal Devices series was optioned from movie rights by Unique Features along with The Mortal Instruments. Screen Gems is now looking for someone to write the script for ‘Clockwork Angel,’ the first Infernal Devices film.
– Releasing in publication order? Clare recently told The FAB Life that an idea being kicked around at Screen Gems is to release the movies in publication order like the books. This, in my opinion was major 2011 movie news. This would be very unique and different as far as book to film adaptation goes and could possibly keep that uniqueness that these books really have.
So, what do we have to look forward to in 2012?
– First of all, if you follow both The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices, the cover for ‘City of Lost Souls’ will be revealed in January. That will be our first 2012 news to look forward to. Maybe it will give away something about where the plot is going but knowing Clare it will probably only make us guess more.
– Of course, with the news that the studio is working on a script for the first Infernal Devices film, director and casting news could follow this year.
– ‘City of Lost Souls’ debuts in May. It will be embargoed, meaning no advanced copies so there will be no online reviews. However, I know there will be an extensive marketing plan and I’m sure trailers.
