I never thought it could be done, but I’m beginning to understand the disconnect that liberals have with reality. After three years of Barack Obama at the helm, two of them with total Democratic congressional control, I have tamely asked liberals I know if the state of the nation today has fallen short, met, or even exceeded what they expected after electing the one.
Strangely, none of them ever pick either of the three choices while responding to the question. Instead, they circle their political wagons and, rather than even defend the president and his record, go into instant attack mode on any piecemeal conservative issue, which they obviously loathe, but that really has no bearing on the plight in which America finds itself today – an ideological dash toward economic ruin.
They probably understand the abysmal indexes but would rather micro-analyze some minute issue they have with a particular Republican or the conservative party in general. This may be any one of the following: global warming, abortion rights, green energy, public prayer, the 2nd Amendment, oil production, homosexual equality, even animal rights. (And they’ve never let go of Sarah Palin). So, in order to remain steadfast to their precious but lesser crusades, all of which are part of the grand liberal platform, they willingly gloss over the fact that the US is indeed on the verge of financial collapse and that their president and the Senate majority leader are all but cavalier in the face of it.
I have come to call this the jigsaw syndrome – the liberal’s accepted belief that if each piece of the political puzzle (i.e. solution) is ideologically good, then the completed whole, being the sum of those parts, will indeed be – further, that after putting it all together, there is no need to even look at, much less scrutinize, the big picture. So while the nation is much worse across the board than it was when Obama took the oath of office (and broken with maddening regularity), at least it is clear that his party is getting its perks.
Green energy industries are thriving (sometimes for as long as a whole year) before imploding, due to bad business plans that inexplicably merited now wasted taxpayer money (with absolute cronyism serving as the sole justification for investing). Environmentalists are all but singing patriotic songs since Obama balked on the Canadian pipeline which would have helped all Americans in the way of creating jobs, lowering oil prices, and lessening dependence on Mideast fossil fuels (all big campaign promises back in the day).
The Department of Justice blatantly broke existing gun laws in order to impose more (and is in fact complicit to capital murder, correction, workplace violence in the field). And it finds the time and revenue to file federal lawsuits against states protecting their people and borders. The Democratic party will simply not allow any illegal (and his potential vote) to fend for himself against whatever law of the land he is breaking.
Our thousand day budgetless Senate tables all House bills (the only ones being passed, by the way), squelching any attempt at solving the national debt, so, of course, any entitlement program remains basically unscathed while the American people are stiffed with the tab. And while Democrats can look at all those ideal but costly jigsaw parts and believe their process is materializing into the perfect whole, conservatives look at the realities of today’s Europe and other socialist regimes and rightly warn that those are the very pieces that put countries in the hole.
By scratching the smallest itch of any of his liberal flock, Obama creates a satisfying distraction for them and buys himself valuable time while the nation stagnates and dies its unnatural death. Socialism is the goal, and his hero worshipers need only read his books to know that is so. All the influences to his actions today are there. In his writings, the virtues of democracy, individual rights, and capitalism are glaringly absent. (Many are troublingly fine with that; others are still without a clue).
Sadly, the Democratic party has bought in, as they do with anything that was once deemed culturally or morally outrageous. Throwing political weight behind every unrepresented cause, from socially peculiar to decadent, has always been their only path to victory.
Barack Obama has, by all reports, been the costliest thing that ever happened to the national backdrop and the most detrimental obstacle to the American workplace ever. GE’s Jeffrey Immelt, his appointed counsel on the latter, is getting filthy richer with the jobs he took away from US citizens and sent overseas and never flinches at the avalanche of regulations with which the president assails other domestic business owners today.
Of course, the president will never say that this is the desired end game, but is it not obvious that approval ratings mean nothing to him? Indeed, he never diverges from any course of action, in spite of the hard evidence that his feigned good intentions are moving in a very negative direction. (He simply believes he can still be re-elected by snowing a large enough voting bloc – even if smaller than that of 2008 – and continue with his ideological domestic havoc in order to achieve the America he wants).
If he is allowed to get to his finish line before the American people can correct the problem they voted in, he will have singlehandedly brought down what was the world’s greatest economy and replaced it with the slothful, gluttonous, and oppressive government that is emerging now. And from that moment on , he will forever be that historically significant, if bankrupt, champion of the unwilling, the uninspired, the unmotivated, and the uncaring populace – all at the bargain basement price of a once vibrant and exceptional nation.
