The Fribourg Museum of Art & History offers a rich collection of historical art objects dating from the city’s history to the present day.
Housed in the Ratze Palace, this is home to the largest collection of Swiss sculptures from the early half of the 16th century, and includes works by Courbet, Marcello, Delacroix, Hodler, Crotti and Tinguely. The Gutenberg Museum is housed in a 700-year-old building and opened for the first time as the Swiss Museum of Graphic Arts and Communication in late 2000. The museum features displays documenting the history of the printing press from the past and possible future techniques. The Fribourg Brewery & Beer Museum is housed in the former cellars of the Cardinal Brewery, featuring many antiquated objects related to brewing beer by traditional methods. The Swiss Museum of Sewing Machines is located in the middle of the city, in a vault dating from the 12th century, and features sewing machines and other useful household objects from around the world.
