Flint area ‘X Factor’ fans are in shock tonight over Stacy Francis’ graceful exit from the competition. While reviews were mixed over her Meatloaf song last, no one expected her to go home, especially after Astro’s bad attitude going into the final performances. Ray McCarty of Flint is very upset with Simon Cowell for delivering the decision that sent Francis home. He said:
‘Tonight Astro disgraced the hip hop community with his bad attitude and near refusal to sing. His behavior definitely shows a lack of maturity and respect for the chance he’s been given. At this point, I think he’s going to be hard pressed to get any more votes from America. Stacy Francis should have stayed and she showed a lot of grace in her thank you to Simon. In my opinion, Simon made another huge mistake in sending Stacy home.’
Mentor LA Reid was shocked when Astro strutted onto the stage and said he felt like he shouldn’t even perform, then asked Reid if he thought he should. Reid told him he’d come too far. So, Astro then gave a very lackluster (but original) performance to ‘Never Can Say Goodbye.’
When it came time for the final judges’ vote, LA Reid told Astro that he was upset by his attitude. However, he ended up staying loyal to his own act and voting Francis off.
Nicole Scherzinger was next, and praised Francis for how far she’s come, after all she’s been through. She too, was surprised by Astro’s behavior and told him she had to side with her girl, so she voted Astro off.
Paula Abdul said they were equally talented, but ultimately she voted against Francis.
That left things up to Simon Cowell, who let Astro know he was upset with his attitude. He told him to uncross his arms and look him directly in the face, because what he was doing was disrespectful to his mother and the people in the audience.
Astro told Cowell he felt like ‘if you’re going to put me in the bottom 2, then I don’t even want to perform for people who don’t even want me to be here.’
Cowell was obviously frustrated and asked Astro if he’s in the bottom 2 again, will he act the same way again? Astro gave a half-hearted apology and Cowell finally decided to send Francis home. All the while Simon was speaking, the audience chanted ‘As-tro, As-tro’. It wasn’t clear if they wanted him to stay or were chanting his name in hopes Cowell would give him the final cut.
Francis was obviously sad to go, but humble and she hushed the audience so she could relay her gratitude to the judges and specifically Simon Cowell, for giving her the opportunity to sing for the world. She also took responsibility for what she felt was not a great performance last night, and said she realizes someone has to go home.
Audrey Hale of Flint, who has been a strong supporter of Stacy Francis from her first ‘X Factor’ audition is frustrated and angry over Cowell’s poor judgment call. I spoke with her after the show tonight and she offered the following statement:
‘It’s not the fact necessarily that Stacy is leaving. Everyone has to go some time. But Astro had such a bad attitude and acted so ungrateful for the opportunity he’s had. And, it doesn’t seem fair to Stacy, who has struggled so hard, to get where she did in this. I think somebody with an attitude like Astro’s should not be in a competition like this. There can only be one winner – but nobody likes to support a sore loser. Simon should have sent him home with a hard lesson learned. But something tells me America will end up doing the job sooner rather than later anyway.’
‘The X Factor’ airs in Flint on WSMH FOX66 on Tuesdays at 8 PM EST.
